Pipelines for both drinking water and waste water

The citizens of the smaller southern islands of Funen, Skarø and Drejø, can now safely receive pure water through their taps and an effective diversion of their waste water. The islands have just been connected to the mains supply in Svendborg. The drinking water and waste water are now being transported in two pipelines that are embedded into the seabed.

12 kilometres pipeline on the seabed: The submarine pipeline runs 6 kilometres from Funen to Skarø and from there it goes on for a futher 6 kilometres to the neighbouring island of Drejø.

On our floating stage the pipe sections were assembled with electric welding joints. The long submarine pipeline was then laid out between the islands.

The pipelines were then tested at a pressure about 9 bars which is a much higher pressure than the pipes will ever undergo in normal use.

The submarine pipeline was ballasted with a thick steel cable and afterwards it was embedded into the seabed. At greater depths of water the pipeline was jetted down into the seabed using our jetting unit. Where the seabed was less than 7 metres below sea level a trench was excavated for the pipeline and covered by the excavator. Clay and other materials at the seabed contain a lot of stones, but the cable cover ensures that the submarine pipeline is totally undamaged during the embedding.
