| For
a time Danish island of Ærø was supplied with electricity
via two high-voltage cables.
To strengthen the supply, DELPRO decided to install a new high-voltage
cable and a fibre-optics cable. JD-Contractor A/S was contracted
to load, transport and lay out both cables beneath the sea bed.
After sailing through a western moderate gale,
C/B Henry P. Lading arrived as scheduled on Ærø from
the ABB cable factory in Sweden in the early morning of October
26th 2003. The threat of bad weather required immediate initiation
of laying activities.
Within 24 hours two cables, each 5 kilometres in length,
were laid out by C/B Henry P. Lading in a single stretch of hard
work. Exploiting very accurate positioning equipment aboard the
C/B Henry P. Lading, more than 200 tons of cables were placed in
the excavated furrow between Langeland and Ærø.
Divers from the M/S Honte concluded the work by jetting the cables
into the sea bed of the pre-digged trench from Ærø
to Langeland. The cables were installed at a minimum burying depth
of 1 meter.
For the laying out of the two cables we had a narrow timeframe
of 24 hours. Everything went according to plan, and the cables
were laid out in record time. |
