Laying and embedding of submarine cable from Jutland to Als

The place: Als Fjord, Denmark

The work: JD-Contractor A/S laid out and embedded a submarine cable between Jutland and Als in the middle of June 2006. The cable laying and diving vessel DSV-C/S Cable One laid out the submarine cable assisted by the diving vessel M/S Honte and M/V Lille Björn. M/S Honte carried out the embedding of the submarine cable.

The work was split up into the following stages:
1. Preliminary survey of the seabed in Als Fjord.
2. Excavation of trenches close to shore.
3. Laying of the submarine cable.
4. Embedding of the submarine cable.

M/S Honte carried out the preliminary survey of the seabed in Als Fjord at the beginning of June 2006.

Approx. 100 metres of trenches were excavated into the seabed from the shore on Jutland and approx. 120 metres of trenches were excavated into the seabed from the shore on Als.

Approx. 2,000 metres of submarine cable were laid out and embedded min. 1 metre into the seabed in Als Fjord. Where the seabed was very rough, an excavating vessel was used to excavate the trench for the submarine cable.

The laying and the embedding part of the job were finished in four days, as scheduled.
