Instillation of pipes in the Funen archipelago between Drejø, Hjortø and Hjelmshoved.

In 2008 JD-Contractor A/S made a complete survey of the seabed around the archipelago South of Funen. JD-Contractor A/S has previously had success with installing water pipes for both drinking- and wastewater in the area by laying the two water pipes together.

In 2009 JD-Contractor A/S was hired to install a fresh water pipe and cable pipe together between the islands of Drejø, Hjortø and Hjelmshoved.

The seabed in the area between the islands is very hard so the pipes could not be laid directly into the seabed. Instead a trench was dug into the seabed before the pipes were jetted and laid at a depth of 1 meter.

JD-Contractor A/S’ vessels used in the operation:

M/S Marcos: to transport a mobile digging machine used to dig the trenches.

S/B Victor: used for cable work and surveillance. The pipe and cable were welded together and laid under surveillance of a diver to ensure it was laid directly into the trench.

M/S Honte: diving support vessel with jetting equipment and pumps.

Light Jet 2: used to sink the pipes into parts of the seabed between Drejø and Hjortø where the seabed is softer.

For this operation the following pipes and cables were laid and embedded:

Pipeline for drinking water OD 75mm, from Drejø to Hjortø: 2,812 metres
Cable pipe ID 50mm, from Drejø to Hjortø:                     2,812 metres

Pipeline for drinking water OD 63mm, from Hjortø to Hjelmshoved: 280 metres
Cable pipe ID 50mm, from Hjortø to Hjelmshoved:                     280 metres
