Date: February 2009
Project: Horns Rev 2.
Clients: Nexans Norway
The Horns Rev 2 transmission cable was installed between Henne
Strand and the Trafo-platform at Horns Rev 2 by Nexans Norway using
the support vessel Team Oman in October 2008. However, the intended
procedure of floating the cable from Team Oman approx. 2000 meters
from shore to the beach was aborted due to the weather conditions
in the North Sea in October. Instead Team Oman was used to install
the cable from the trafo-platform and up to approx. 3000 metres
from the shoreline. Here the cable was laid in a u-turn and paralleled
back towards the trafo-platform.
JD-Contractor A/S has the necessary equipment and expertise, so
Nexans Norway asked JD-Contractor A/S to make the post-installation
pull-in at Henne Strand with the Cable Barge Henry P. Lading, M/S
Cable One and other support vessels. Since C/B Henry P. Lading has
a draft of less than 3 metres, it was able to reach closer to shore,
thus performing a much shorter pull-in.
As the possibility of a long period with calm weather was more
likely in January and February than in the autumn, the installation
was scheduled for the first week of February. In the evening of
the 3rd February all preparations had been carried out, and C/B
Henry P. Lading was positioned over the cable by the assisting tugs,
so that the recovery could be commenced. Work continued through
the night and in the early hours of the morning the laying of the
cable in the planned corridor was carried out with divers ensuring
the cable was layed at the correct tension and in a straight line.
The work was carried out without problems so already in the evening
of the 4th February, C/B Henry P. Lading and the tugs were able
to demobilise from site after a successful installation.
