32 kV Cable repair between Vestmanna and mainland of Iceland:

In a close race with time and the harsh weather conditions in the waters around Iceland, JD-Contractor A/S assisted NKT in a cable repair at Vestmanna Island.

This was done in close connection with the laying of a freshwater pipe in the same area, from our vessel C/B Henry P. Lading.

Earlier inspections had shown some severe deterioration of the cable. It was therefore decided to replace part of the old cable.

During the operation it turned out that the armor over long distances was totally corroded away so in all 840 meters were replaced.

Due to very short periods with suitable weather, the work had to be performed in stages as the weather allowed for it. Nonetheless, the work was carried out within the time calculated for the project.
